What is the VIN?

The vehicle identification number (VIN) consists of 17 characters and is found in several different places, depending on the vehicle model and the relevant market.

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is usually found on the driver’s side windshield (1) or in the vehicle registration documents (2).

Additionally, the VIN may also be present in other places:

  • At the front of the engine block. You can easily identify it by lifting the hood and examining the front of the engine.
  • Near the container containing the windshield washer fluid, at the front of the car chassis.
  • Near the rear wheel arch (3). Simply look directly above the tire.
  • On the driver’s side door pillar (4). Open the driver’s side door and look underneath, where the side mirror would be if the door was closed.
  • Along the driver’s side door jamb (5). Open the door and look near where the door locks, not too far from the seat belt guide.
  • Under the spare wheel.

If you still have difficulty finding the vehicle identification number, please contact the car manufacturer for more information.
